DJ Antomattei of Tokyo (born Marc Tolin Antomattei is a professional disc jockey that is both a musical connoisseur and an autodidact; He is known for playing many eclectic styles of music including house, hip hop, soul, acid-jazz, disco, lounge, bossa nova, and salsa among other styles. The self-proclaimed “Miles Davis of DJs” got his start as a disc jockey while residing in Tokyo, Japan.

東京のDJ Antomattei（本名born Marc Tolin Antomattei）は、音楽に優れ独学でプロのディスクジョッキーになった。彼は、ハウス、ヒップホップ、ソウル、アシッド・ジャズ、ディスコ、ラウンジ、ボサノバ、サルサなどのエレクトリックなスタイルの音楽で知られている。自称“DJのマイルス・デイビス”は、東京でディスクジョッキーとして活動している。

DJ Cash's music career started in 1983 at the age of 13, performing as a DJ at youth clubs and community radio stations throughout Copenhagen, Denmark. In 1991, at the age of 21, he moved to Japan on invitation from Afrika Islam (the Universal Zulu Nation) to participate in the pioneering of the Hip Hop culture in Japan. Since those early days, DJ Cash has been involved in countless concerts and nationwide tours with world-renowned Hip Hop artists including Ice Cube, Dr. Dre and Snoop Doggy Dog.† In addition to DJ’ing in clubs all over Japan, DJ Cash is the DJ of choice for VIP and after parties for the likes of Missy Eliot, The Neptunes, NBA superstar Michael Jordan, Kanye West, Brad Pitt...the list goes on and on. Thank you everyone for attending our parties. Keeping a party brand going is a very difficult thing to do, but we did it. For everyone that does not know our story, three of our organizers (DJ Antomattei, Travis, and Yukina) were apart of another party brand "VivaTokyo" prior. In November 2011 shortly after the VivaTokyo 1st Anniversary Party, the three made the decision to form their own new international party brand. On November 13, 2011 a meeting was held, and along with two new members (Yui and Mizuha), "TOKYO KNIGHTS ♛ 東京ナイツ" was formed.

Since our launch event we have been producing a party monthly for Tokyo's A-list crowd, hipsters, and the cool young people that define us. For the demographic of men and women aged between 20 - 40 years old, we would say that we have the best international party in Tokyo. Our parties are for everyone. Please come to our "1st Anniversary Party" and celebrate with us as we head into a new year of our fun history.

The Amazing Spider-Man Movie Review

Here at Tokyo Knights we love nightlife and we love entertainment, nothing says those two things better than a night out at the movies.  A new segment I (DJ Antomattei) decided to do here at the website is start to throw more movies into the mix of things.  We are starting off with our review of Sony's reboot of the Spider-Man movie franchise with "The Amazing Spider-Man".

I'll start off by saying I didn't have high expectations going into this movie, I certainly felt it was too soon seeing to as Spider-Man's movie career just started off ten years ago and "Spider-Man 3" is only five years old.  I didn't think this movie was necessary at all.  "Spider-Man 3" was not the greatest of superhero movies according to some but it was still entertaining and it wasn't a complete failure like something akin to "Batman & Robin".  If the series went a little left field I felt it still could have been salvaged and saved.  This movie could have easily been "Spider-Man 4" just with a new leading actor and director, and avoided going through the whole origin story all over again.

Beginning with the actual review now, let's talk about the story.  This movie starts off with Peter Parker (Spider-Man) as a child living with his parents.  Peter's father Richard Parker is a researcher for scientific research corporation Oscorp, and after a break in at the family home where some secret Oscorp documents were attempted stolen (possibly stolen, which one is correct I have no idea), the parents pack up and haul ass out of the house immediately dropping young Peter off at his Uncle Ben and Aunt May's house and then abandoning him there.  From the drop off point the movie transitions pretty quickly to Peter as a 17 year old teenage high school student.

From early on in the movie Peter discovers an old leather satchel bag in the basement of his home with his aunt and uncle that belonged to his father.  Going through the bag he finds a secret compartment with some hidden documents inside that sparks his interest in wanting to research his father and find his father's old science partner Dr. Kirk Conners who is still employed and working over at Oscorp.  Peter decides to visit Oscorp and meet Dr. Conners face-to-face to ask him and a few questions about his dad I suppose in an attempt to find out what happened to him, but during his visit Peter does some pretty stupid and risky things like barging into the place without an appointment, stealing an interns badge to gain entry to the building, and the biggest of them all, breaking into a classified radioactive room full of spiders where the dumbass proceeds to get bit by one.

After obtaining his new found powers Peter does some really crazy things in public that make you second guess the high IQ that was written for him.  He seems not to care how far he is willing to show off and risk putting himself out there as a freak.  So many people see him do insane things in public that it would be hard not to raise questions about the boy.  I'm surprised the government didn't take him away early on in the movie to lock away and do experiments on.  Okay so this incident on the NY subway I can maybe forgive because at that time he didn't know what he was capable of and everything he was doing he was experiencing for the first time himself.  Just wait until you see this scene.  After that though in his school gym where he confronts the school bully Flash Thompson he does some super crazy shit that would raise too many questions among his peers.  Yep, he displays his powers too much unmasked, so when Spider-man does show up suited up later on in the movie and he appears all over the news, I could imagine in real life all his friends being suspecting and saying "yeah, that's him alright".  And then there is a scene later in the movie that involves a football field goal post, I just wanted to slap my forehead it was so stupid.

After a very long time to get started, things finally start transcending in the movie the way they do in the comic with Peter's Uncle Ben getting shot on the city streets just moments after Peter witnesses the very shooter rob a convenient store and doing nothing to stop him.  I just realized now too at this point when he decides to look for the killer and get vengeance, the movie takes too long following around Spider-Man while he hunts down all caucasian male criminals with blonde hair and the same profile as the man who shot his uncle.  Come to think of it, at the end of it all I never recall him finding the guy either from going through all of that.

This movie was a beautiful mess from start to finish.  There were lovable elements about it throughout, but the bad things are pretty much equal in number to the movie's good points.  Here are some notes I took down about them.

What worked about this movie?

+The casting and the acting is great.  Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone, Dennis Leary, and Martin Sheen are all great on the performance side of things (I wish they could have fed Garfield some better lines though), and Garfield looks amazing as Spider-Man (no pun intended).  Garfield really moves great in the suit, and this is the way anyone would imagine the character to look like if really come to life.  It doesn't have that over the top, over stylized CG feel like "Spider-Man 3" had, the animations when the CG appears looks a lot more realistic.

+The drama is a little bit more up in this than in the first Sam Raimi movie.

+This movie is a visual spectacle and yes it is better in 3D visually.  Not sure if I can add a extra point to the score for that though.

What didn't work about this movie?

-Even though the drama is up, the entertainment and fun factor of it is down.

-The timing.  The first act of this movie, about 40 to 50 minutes was slow.  I wasn't enthralled by it and I didn't feel as though I was watching a big budget summer blockbuster.  It does pick up a bit in the second act.

-The writing.  The writing was so atrocious and awful, it's hard to believe anyone would say lines as corny and ham like as what you hear coming out of people's mouths in this.  And the Lizard villain talking to himself very much the same way Norman Osborn aka The Green Goblin did in Sam Raimi's "Spider-Man" movie did.  Didn't I see this movie before?  He said something midway through the movie to Spider-Man along the lines of "Why be human when we can be so much more, faster, stronger, better..." etc. etc.  Seriously?  He talks so much like a one dimensional villain and I just wasn't buying it.

And really, if the Lizard succeeds in turning the entirety of Manhattan into lizard people then what next?  Did he take the time to contemplate this?  Imagine everyone as lizards seriously.  If your wife or girlfriend looks like a lizard would you still want to fuck her?  Are you still going to do the same social activities as a lizard that you did as a human?  Going out to eat, go shopping, go to school, play sports.  how in anyway, shape, or form would everyone being a lizard make New York a better place or everyone more evolutionary.  You would have lizard strength of course and I bet you would be able to climb the fuck out of a tree, but that's about it.

-The ending was a little over the top for me.  It felt like it belonged more in an X-Men movie.

Closing thoughts

If you're a Spider-Man fan, a Marvel fan, a comic book, or superhero fan, you are still going to want to see this movie regardless anything of what anybody says about it.  I had that guy feeling going into it it wasn't going to be the greatest thing ever, I read some reviews before hand, but it still didn't stop me from hitting up my local theater.  By the way if you're not watching this in 3D on an IMAX screen then you are really missing out.  Spider-Man is Marvel Comics poster child and it would be just too hard to skip this.
